Ibn Taymiyya’s Belief:That Hellfire Will End

Wahhabiyyah/salafi said,
Quote:
“ The Accusation that Ibn Taymiyyah held the Hellfire to come to an end, Another accusation by which the opponents declared Ibn Taymiyyah to be misguided due to his contradicting the 'consensus' on this issue.
Yet nowhere in the works of Ibn Taymiyyah does he say this, in fact what we find from him is the exact opposite, and we challenge anybody who accuses Ibn Taymiyyah of this to bring his proof.”

Wahhabiyyah/Salafis have been hiding this  rare and very hard to find book of Ibn Taymiyyah where he affirms an end for the Hellfire and on page 83 of his book:

Where he asserts that it would be a contradiction of Allah's wisdom and mercy to leave the Disbelievers in there forever

Ibn Taymiyya’s Belief of Hell (Jahannam
Being Non-eternal

Ibn Taymiyyah said in his book:
ﺍﻟﺮﺩ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻣﻦ ﻗﺎﻝ ﺑﻔﻨﺎء ﺍﻟﺠﻨﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﻨﺎﺭ
“Ar Raddu ‘ala man qaala bi fanaa’il Jannati wan Naar”
(The Refutation of the one who affirms the end of both Heaven and Hell)

Ibn Taymiyyah said:
ﻓﻴﻪ ﻣﻦ ﻣﻨﺎﻗﻀﺔ ﺍﻟﺤﻜﻤﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﺮﺣﻤﺔ ﻣﺎ ﻻ ﻳﻈﻬﺮ ﻓﻲ ﻏﻴﺮﻩ ﺃﻫـــ ﻭﺃﻣﺎ ﺧﻠﻖ ﻧﻔﻮﺱﺗﻌﻤﻞ ﺍﻟﺸﺮ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﺪﻧﻴﺎ ﻭﻓﻲ ﺍﻵﺧﺮﺓ ﻻ ﺗﻜﻮﻥ ﺇﻻﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻌﺬﺍﺏ، ﻓﻬﺬﺍ ﺗﻨﺎﻗﺾ ﻳﻈﻬﺮ
“But the creation of souls that commit evil in the dunya, then will only be in torment in the Hereafter IS A CONTRADICTION. The contradiction of Divine Wisdom and Mercy is more apparent in this issue than anything else.”

In the same book, he said:
ﻟﻴﺲ ﻣﻌﻬﻢ ﻛﺘﺎﺏ، ﻭﻻ ﺳﻨﺔ ﻭﻻ ﺃﻗﻮﺍﻝ ﺍﻟﺼﺤﺎﺑﺔ -. ﺃﻫــــ ﻭﺣﻴﻨﺌﺬ ﻓﻴﺤﺘﺞ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻓﻨﺎﺋﻬﺎ ﺑﺎﻟﻜﺘﺎﺏ ﻭﺍﻟﺴﻨﺔ، ﻭﺃﻗﻮﺍﻝ ﺍﻟﺼﺤﺎﺑﺔ – ﻣﻊ ﺃﻥ ﺍﻟﻘﺎﺋﻠﻴﻦﺑﺒﻘﺎﺋﻬﺎ
“In which case, the argument for the ending of Hellfire is supported by the Quran, the Sunnah, and the statements of the Sahabah; while the affirmers of its eternality have with them no Quran, no Sunnah, and no statements of the Sahabah.”

Ibn Taymiyya says:
Therefore, while it is deduced that Hellfire will pass away with The Book, The Sunna, and the words of The Companions, those who say that Hellfire will remain forever have no evidence from The Book, The Sunna, and the words of The Companions.

Al-Albani is quoted to say:
"Ibn Qayyim has a second opinion according to which Hellfire will never end. Ibn Taymiyya has a book refuting those who say Janna [Paradise] and Jahannam [Hell] will cease to exist. At that time [20 years ago] I thought that Ibn Taymiyya shared this second opinion of Ibn Qayyim. The author al-San`ani, with what he has quoted from Ibn Qayyim, explains that the above mentioned refutation [written by Ibn Taymiyya] is not against those who say Hellfire will end, but it is against the jahmis who say Paradise will cease to exist and he [Ibn Taymiyya] states that Hell will cease to exist. Moreover, he does not state only this, but states also that the people of Hell will enter paradises with rivers flowing under them after Hell ceases to exist."

"fana al-nar"
(that Jahannam will come to an end) was the Final Recorded/Written Position of Ibn Taymiyya.

Furthermore, Note: this position continued to be defended by his loyal student Ibn al-Qayyim even after Ibn Taymiyya's death
For example, Ibn al-Qayyim completed the composition of al-Hadi in the year 745 A.H. (1344-45). Ibn Taymiyya died in 728AH/1328CE.

Imam Ibn Hajar al-Haytami (ra) stated:
"As one of his false beliefs, he [Ibn Taymiyya] has stated: Hellfire will end." Source: al-Fatawa al-Hadithiyya.

Imam al-A'zam Abu Hanifa(ra) stated:
"One who says that Janna and Jahannam will cease to exist after people of Janna and people of Jahannam enter [Janna and Jahannam, respectively] becomes kâfir [apostate] because of denying eternal staying there [in Janna and Jahannam]." (al-Fiqh al-Absat)

--
Imam Abu Hanifah (d. 150 AH) has mentioned that the one who claims that paradise and hellfire will cease to exist after its people entered them has disbelieved in Allah ta'ala. Source: al-Fiqh al-Absat)
--
Imam al-Ash`ari (rastated:"The whole of Ahl al-Islam stated the following: 'There is no end to Janna and Jahannam. Both of them will continue to exist. In the same way, people of Janna will continue to be rewarded [given benefactions] and the people of Jahannam will continue to be punished. There is no end to this.' " (Maqalat al-Islamiyyin, 164)
--

Imam al-Tahawi said:

Janna and Jahannam have been created;
they will not ever cease to exist.

Imam al-Tahawi also wrote:
People who commit great sins among the umma [community, believers] of Muhammad (sallallahu ta'ala alayhe wa sallam) will not abide in Hellfire forever, provided that they die as Ahl al-Tawhid [as monotheists, i.e. as Muslims]. This includes even the unrepentant that, nonetheless, died as believers knowing Allahu ta'ala. They are in His judgment and decree. If He wishes, He forgives and pardons them by His grace, as He mentioned in His book (4:48). Or if He wishes, He punishes them in Hellfire by His justice, and then removes them by His rahmat [mercy, grace], (or) through the intercession of His obedient servants. He then sends them to His Janna [Paradise].

Ibn Hazm wrote:"... They have agreed with consensus that Jahannam is haq [true], that it is an eternal place of punishment, and that it [Jahannam] and its inhabitants will continue forever and will never cease to exist." (Maratib al-Ijma', 268)
--
Ibn Hazm (d. 456 AH) mentioned that hellfire and its people will remain forever and that the one saying otherwise has disbelieved by consensus (Ijma'). (He said under "بَاب من الإجماع فِي الاعتقادات يكفر من خَالفه باجماع" the following: "وان النَّار حق وَأَنَّهَا دَار عَذَاب أبدا لَا تفنى وَلَا يفنى أَهلهَا أبدا بِلَا نِهَايَة"; Source: Maratib al-Ijma')
 --
Imam al-Subki (rastates: "The doctrine of the Muslims is that Paradise and Hellfire do not pass away. Abû Muhammad Ibn Hazm has reported Ijma [Consensus] on the question and the fact that whoever violates such Consensus is a disbeliever (kâfir) by Consensus. There is no doubt over this, for it is obligatorily known in the Religion and the evidence to that effect is abundant." (Al-Subkî, al-Durra al-Mudiyya fî al-Radd `alâ Ibn Taymiyya (3rd epistle, al-I`tibâr bi Baqâ' al-Jannati wa al-Nâr p. 60)
--
Imam Taqi al-Din al-Subki (d. 756 AH) mentioned this also and even said that this is from the necessary knowledge of the religion (Ma'lum min al-Din bil Dharurah). Source: al-I'tibar bi Baqa` al-Jannah wal Nar)
--
Imam al-Kawthari (ra) stated that: "The takfîr [declaration of apostasy] of those who deny the eternality of Janna and Jahannam or one of them [Janna or Jahannam] is based on the Ijma of Ahl al-Haq [people of truth]." (Maqalat, 377)"That Janna and Jahannam are eternal is fixed by Qur'an al-Karîm, the Sunna and yaqini [definite] ijma." (Maqalat, 450)

NOTE:

Shaykh Abdur Rahman Sondalaani mentions:
But please note that there are also some places in his books where he mentions that Hellfire will NOT end.
A Salafi (by deceptionmay try to defend him by mentioning that.
But at best, his statements are contradictory on a clear cut issue where that is not allowed.
Nowhere did he explicitly says that he was of one opinion and changed his mind for us to know what his final position was.
So we are left with his contradictory statements in his book Fanaa Al Jannah wan Naar and the statements of his TOP student Ibnul Qayyim in Haadil Arwaahand Shifaa’ul ‘Aleel and what their contemporaries have affirmed about them on this issue. Read more/info: Here

Ibn Taymiyah and The Universe

Ibn Taymiyah claimed that the universe does not have a beginning and that it existed eternally with Allah.

Such a statement is blasphemy regardless of who says it.

All Muslims believe Allah existed in eternity ALONE - Allah is the ONLY One Who exists without a beginning. The greatest scholars of his time judged him (Ibn Taymiyah) as a blasphemer.
In Islam it is the belief that ONLY ALLAH existed eternally and He brought all the things from the state of non existence into existence.
If any Muslims doubts this , it implies that "if" there were other things also existing along with Allah since eternity , then the question comes who made these things?

This will give rise to another god who was responsible for this "other things"! Also among the attributes of Allah is 'qadeem'.

But
Ibn Taymiyah was so much involved in Greek Philosophy that like greek philosophers he said along with Allah , Throne and water also existed along with Allah and they were not created by Allah ( this is total Kufr).

Only Allah existed eternally and HE will exist always.

Shaykhul Islam , hafiz , Ibn Hajar al Asqalani said this was the worst thing from Ibn Taymiyah among many other bad things in Aqidah reported from Ibn Taymiyah.

Hellfire will pass away ??

“The Accusation that ibn Taymiyyah held the Hellfire to come to an end by Brother Abu Rumaysah” Here
---

Quote: […]

Ibn Taymiyya and Ibn Qayyim have been refuted by great scholars such as Shaykh al-Islâm Taqî al-Dîn al-Subkî rahimahullah and al-San`ânî rahimahullah. There is also a refutation written by Shaykh al-Islâm Mustafa Sabri rahimahullah directed at Ibn Qayyim.
-------------------------------
Abu Rumaysah said:
So with this it is clear that both ibn Taymiyyah and his student did not hold the Hellfire to come to an end or that the punishment would cease for the unbelievers. Were it not for the fear of lengthening the discussion beyond what is necessary, we would quote from the tafseer of ibn Taymiyyah in which he makes clear that certain types of people would remain in the Hellfire forever, for example, Pharaoh.

------------------------------

He has quoted Ibn Qayyim from al-Hadi al-Arwah. Why doesn't he quote and explain the following words of Ibn Qayyim also from al-Hadi al-Arwah:

"Yes, considering the ayats that are so clear in meaning, it is impossible to deny that kafirs will forever remain in Jahannam and will never be able to leave Jahannam. As a result, they will be punished there as long as Jahannam exists. But when the time comes Allahu ta'ala will annihilate Jahannam; in this way, in agreement with the clear meanings of the ayats, there will never be 'exit from Jahannam for kafirs.'"

Ibn Qayyim then gives the following example:
"There is a difference between a convict who leaves a prison that continues to exist and a convict whose imprisonment ends because the prison is damaged and destroyed."

After quoting these statements of Ibn Qayyim, Shaykh al-Islâm Mustafa Sabri rahimahullah makes a comment about him that may be translated as "very pathetic."

In conclusionit is by now very clear that both Ibn Taymiyya and Ibn Qayyim defended the idea that Hellfire will come to an end. That Ibn Taymiyya and Ibn Qayyim may have expressed the opposite (and correct) belief in their earlier writings does not change this factQuoting their earlier opinions on this matter will not help the case of this Taymiyyan apologist.”  Here
